If this happens to you, what will you feel about it?
Plagiarism is a practice of claiming one’s work or implying that you are the author of one’s article. Sounds unfair, right? That after all your effort, hours of thinking, headaches constructing the entire article, somebody will just copy and paste it to its own site and claim it as their work. It is not only copying the entire work but by just simply copying a paragraph or phrase from one’s work and claiming it as yours, no credits at all to the real author is already a practice of plagiarism. It is a practice of dishonesty and should be stop.
Worldwide web has been the most common source of information nowadays, because it has been more convenient and much easier to do. Most people have their online profiles, online photo albums, blogs, etc. Seems like most of things now are being compiled online and it would be very easy to anybody to steal contents from one’s website because all they have to do is to just copy and paste it. It has also been known as content scraping affecting the most are established websites and blogs. Tools have been created already to detect and prevent plagiarism and some of them are free. Blogger’s like me can use these tools to protect our blog contents.

Why am I come out to posting this? I was browsing the internet early this morning thinking about any subjects that I could write about. I was also checking some available projects that I could work on from a freelance writing site that I recently joined, when I saw this site http://copyscape.com being included to a project post. It says there that all of the writing works should be checked at CopyScape before submitting them. Out of my curiosity, I checked the site, I already thought that it could have something to do with plagiarism or authenticating writing works most probably, and so I got this when I get into the site.
It is a website where you can enter the page URL of your blog post and after clicking on submit they will be searching the web for any copies of your contents. They will also search for sites that have copied your content without your permission as well as those who quoted you. I tried to check it with my own’s blog post that I also posted to Helium. The content that I used was my post last February 2, 2008 What it takes to be a writer?, I first posted this to Helium which can be checked at http://www.helium.com/items/633651-always-wonder-takes-sensible and it has been number one since I posted it. So I really don’t know where it has been copied.
From the results of my check this is one that I got :
result
If you will check it, they have all the phrases that have been copied to my post and if you’re going to compare it to mine, she almost copies everything. I really don’t know how I am going to feel about it but I really hope this kind of practice will soon be stopped for maybe just a way of respect.
